Star Battle: from controls to your first round

Take a moment with Star Battle before moving to another game. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the example below to understand a decision. Read the objective before making your first input. Look at what changes after your first action.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Build familiarity through play

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Work through the instructions

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

How your actions work

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Try this example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Choose a deliberate next step.

A common point of confusion

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Check the rule before repeating the action. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
