Getting started with Snake

Bring your attention to one round of Snake. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Use the example below to understand a decision.

An idea for your next attempt

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

What you need to achieve

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

The order of play

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

Follow the example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Choose a deliberate next step.

A common point of confusion

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
